The Regional Offices (ROs) of the Department of Education (DepEd) have been instructed to make sure that the P5,000 cash allowance for teachers to be used in the upcoming school year is released “as possible.”
The Alliance of Concerned Teachers (ACT) National Capital Region (NCR) Union posted on its Facebook page a memorandum signed by Undersecretary of Finance (OUF) Annalyn Sevilla dated Aug. 4.
The processing and payment of the teachers’ cash allowance for Fiscal Year (FY) 2022 were described in the aforementioned advisory.
According to DepEd’s statement in the advisory, the P5,000 cash allowance is granted to classroom teachers, “for the purchase of instructional supplies and materials, for internet subscription, and for other communication expenses.”
According to DepEd, the aforementioned allowance is meant to cover “annual medical expenses” for SY 2022–2023.
DepEd stated that the P5,000 cash allowance for implementing units “shall release/pay eligible teachers” not earlier than August 22, 2022, which was announced as the first day of classes for the upcoming school year. This was done “in exigency of the service of the entire teaching force,” according to DepEd.
It was noted in the DepEd Order that the cash allowance “shall be given to entitled public school teachers not earlier than the official start of the school year 2022-2023.
DepEd stated that in relation to this, the Regional Offices “must guarantee that the allotment for the purpose shall be processed and released” to Schools Division Offices (SDOs) as soon as possible.
