A Grade 3 pupil wins Gold in International Math Competition in Vietnam

An 8-year-old kid from Lopez Elementary School, Laguna Philippines wins gold in an international math competition in Vietnam.

Grade 3 pupil Zac Harvey Gordula, a math wizard won two gold medals for scoring the highest at the individual and team categories of the 2019 Singa or the Singapore Math Global Team Competition held in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam from November 22 to 26.

The Grade 3 boy secured the top spot to win the gold in the individual category for his Grade level. He then joins the team category that comprised of two other math wizards, one from Indonesia and another from host country Vietnam. The team secured the top spot, winning gold in the team round middle division of the global math challenge.

The Singa event is an international team and individual-based math competition that focuses on very strong teamwork and high-levels of collaboration, stamina and mutual support and superlative math skills. This was explained by the Singapore International Math Contest Centre (SIMCC). The organizers describe the event as a” unique new math competition with ambitious and important goals”.

Gordula also received a trophy for emerging as the overall runner-up among Grade 3 students who joined the Singa Math Competition.
