Classroom Observations for RPMS
Classroom observation plays a central role in teaching. Teachers must be observed 4 times a year using the Classroom Observation TooI with the Master Teachers. It is a requirement for our RPMS attachment. We are done with our observation for the second quarter. Two more observations to prepare for this school year to have the rating we need.
Still, our Principal, Supervisors, and Education Program Supervisors will have their time to monitor and to observe classes. They said during the RPMS training that they will come to our schools not to critic but to assess and help teachers on strategies to use in teaching and help us improve classroom instructions. Still, we will expect for a surprise visit of our superiors.
But, whether you’ve been teaching for two years or 20, you’ll probably agree: Being observed is nerve-racking! How would you react? What should you say? What should you do? Will your students be on their best behavior? What if they’re not? This might be planned or surprise observations, just relax, have a deep breath, you can do it!
Aside from the behavior of our students, we need to prepare our lessons if it is a planned observation. We need to decide what material to cover and how to cover it a week before the observation. We tell our students the behavior we expect and assign homework, they will have to complete. Because of this control, having an observation by a superior can be intimidating or frustrating.
How can we react to this? What is our heartfelt on this matter? What will happen to teachers who weren’t able to call up the attention of Master Teachers for an Observation? Is this really effective? Please let’s give our idea on this matter. Leave a comment below and react.
